Educational Neuroscience Group for Research into Affect and Mentation / in Mathematics Education

The Educational Neuroscience Group for Research into Affect and Mentation / in Mathematics Education (ENGRAM/ME), has been funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council as a newly developing Strategic Research Cluster (cf. references below). ENGRAM/ME aims to bring the expertise of researchers, teachers, and others interested in improving mathematics education through the offering and application of new methodological approaches to research, pedagogy, and instructional design in mathematics education.

This trans-disciplinary research cluster brings together a variety of concerned individuals covering the entire gamut of knowledge production, dissemination, and application. The objectives of ENGRAM/ME are to alleviate mathematics anxiety and improve conceptual understandings of mathematics and its applications; especially in mathematical problem solving contexts using computer enhanced learning environments.

Members of ENGRAM/ME include researchers in mathematics education, cognitive psychology, cognitive neuroscience, neuroscience, educational psychology, and human development, educational technology, curriculum development, and educational technology.

Other stakeholders include graduate students seeking to work and gain expertise in a new area of research, professional teachers of mathematics, and software developers concerned with the improvement of computer assisted learning systems.
