Toward a Neuropedagogy of Emotion
Dr. Kathryn E. Patten's doctoral thesis draws primarily on Damasio’s somatic marker theory and incorporates aspects of Lazarus’ appraisal theory. The Somatic Appraisal Model of Affect clarifies the distinctions among the various levels of affect and presents affect as the primary phylogenetic director of embodied brain function provoked by both neuronal and somatic biological and chemical changes. This thesis provides evidence and rationale toward a transdisciplinary, theoretically rigorous, and empirically grounded neuropedagogy of emotion.
